Southeast Asia haze: Air quality levels worsen in parts of Malaysia, Philippines
Parts of Malaysia and the Philippines are experiencing worsening air quality levels, with wind blowing across national boundaries, due to smoke from fires burning in Indonesia's Kalimantan. The air pollution in areas of Malaysia's Sarawak state is at hazardous levels, with readings above 300. Unhealthy air has also been reported in Sabah. The smoke is moving beyond Malaysia into Metro Manila. Authorities say elevated levels of tiny airborne particles have been recorded across the Philippine capital region.
